Court imposes travel ban on six activists

The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today imposed overseas travel bans on six activists including CTU’s Joseph Stalin, Rev. Fr. Jeewantha Peiris, IUSF’s Wasantha Mudalige, Lahiru Weerasekera and SYU’s Eranga Gunasekera.

The court has issued this order in connection with an alleged incident of unlawful assembly in front of the Police Headquarters recently and damaging public property.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage has issued this order according to a request made by the Colombo Crime Division from the court.

Accordingly, the travel ban was imposed on six persons including the convener of the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) Wasantha Mudalige, General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU) Joseph Stalin, National Organiser of the Socialist Youth Union (SYU) Eranga Gunasekara, Reverend Father Jeewantha Peiris and youth activist Lahiru Weerasekara, preventing them leaving the country.
