Charges for issuance of driving licences revised

An extraordinary gazette notification has been published, revising the levies charged for the issuance of vehicle driving licences.

The communiqué was issued by Minister of Transport & Highways Bandula Gunawardane on October 10.

As per the document, the fee charged for an application for a learner’s permit and a new driving licence (for one class) under the normal service is now Rs. 2,500. Under the one-day service, Rs. 3,500 is charged for this.

Meanwhile, the levy for re-applying a driving licence written and practical test have been revised to Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000, respectively.

To renew or extend the validity period of a driving licence, Rs. 2,800 is charged for one period, and an additional levy of Rs. 500 for a lapsed period of one year or less than one year.
