A three-wheeler driver has died on the spot following an accident at the railway crossing on Depot Road, Aluthgama this evening (10).
Police said the accident occurred when the three-wheeler collided with the Office Express train operating from Maradana to Hikkaduwa.
At the time of the incident, the three-wheeler was travelling from Dharga Town towards Aluthgama, and preliminary investigations have revealed that the accident occurred when the three-wheeler tried to drive carelessly across the railway line, police said.
Officials said that only the driver was in the three-wheeler at the time of the accident, and the identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed.
Aluthgama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
