I think the this was done because the other operators were scared that airtel will take over market very soon. until airtel came down all operators were charging a hell of a lot from the customers. why did all operators decreased there call rates , they were scared of airtel ....

Can we have this TRC guy implement floor prices for all goods and services to protect industries. Does he know about demand and supply ? . And who will protect consumers ? .

This is excellent news. Airtel has a very very BIG market share in India already, therefor in the short term the company can very easily afford to run even at a loss here in Sri Lanka, at least till the other players leave the market due to unsustainable losses incurred because of the ceaseless price war. Airtel´s long term plan was to becoming the sole service provider here in Sri Lanka. After leaving us with no other alternative they will then start robbing from us whatever amount they want! Them thieving Indians, they will never ever do anything that will benefit others but they will always do only what will benefit themselves instead.

What TRC did was one of the most anti competition acts. The job of the TRC should be to protect the CONSUMER instead it went on to protect the Business. The very essence of competition is that the consumer gets the service at the lowest price. If a company cannot survive the competetion it must close down the operations and leave the field. Well after all what else can you expect from the government of MR??? We have heard commissions fixing the MAXIMUM price but here in the BANANA REPUBLIC the commissions FIX THE MINIMUM price for a service. Wetath Niyarath Goyam Ka nam Kata kiyamuda E Amaruwa!!!! Three cheers for the MIRACLE OF ASIA.

Why is the government upset when the private bus operators request for something similar ? Is it because they are common people unlike these bug telecom companies ?

Experiance over the world is when ever some authority intervenes to set minimum prices overruling the market forces curruption + an imbalance could creep in to the relevent market ruining it whilst few benifit. Some of the past regulator authorities too have been notorious for this.Leaving aside the legal technicalities got+consumer protection sociaties has be monitor every move in this regard for the sake of public interest.

If there was no minimum price set then only the company that can afford to absorb the maximum losses incurred by the price war will be left in the market, then that single company will have a monopoly over the entire Sri Lankan market. Even in the USA, the most capitalist country on the planet, Monopolies are not allowed. This is because when there are no other competitors left the sole company that exist can rip off consumers by charging them a highly inflated price since consumers are left without a choice! When there are no other competitors left, this is the time for the only surviving company to not only recover the losses they incurred in the past due to competition and price wars but to make a HUGE profit for themselves as well. Can anyone from the many smart a..es that have commented here negatively about the minimum price prove it to all Sri Lankans that at the end of the price war more than one company will survive? Can anyone from the many smart a..es that have commented against the minimum price in here please advice how is it that he/she will stop a monopoly from charging any price they want???? OK, lets say that two companies survived, then we will be left with an Oligopoly, can anyone of these smart a..es that have commented here can give concrete assurances to the rest of us Sri Lankans that the only two companies left will not agree amongst them selves on a price and will not rip us us off together? With a minimum price the competition will still be their, but then instead of keep on lowering their prices to get a bigger share of the very limited Sri Lankan market all the players will be forced to give a superior service to their customers to prevent their customers from changing the service provider. One more thing market oriented economies has been proven a failure in the 21st century this is why the west led by the USA has become debt ridden and bankrupt while China not only is booming but also is financing the market oriented economies of the west.

This has hampered competition and ultimately THE CUSTOMER LOOSES. Only companies will profit from a minimum floor price!

If we carefully analyse last 18 months we can see companies were fighting with price. They were not caring about the quality of service. For an example the last entrant was just opening the network for more and more customers with low price, but we cannot call other operators from that SIM. And sometimes the quality is very bad and customer care says temporary disturbance. So it is a good decision to fix price, and let the companies compete with the quality and customer service. Let the Indian people live with low quality, but we need a service which is can be used to call any network anytime.
Quality First

Including other taxes min price per minute 2/= is ok. But excluding other taxes that is not fare coz customer has to pay nearly 3/= per minitue. Under open economic system there should be competition and customer get the more advantage. In this case we will not have chance to get foregin investment. In future if there is a mobile phone introduce with the Skype facility only those companies can provide the internet connection in lower price. That will be the more advantage for the people.
