President says his unbiasedness paved way for peaceful, fair election

President Maithripala Sirisena claims, for the first time in history a President in power opted to remain unbiased paving the room for a peaceful and fair election.
This unbiasedness is a feature of a democratic country, the President said further during a meeting organized by the Police Department to appreciate the President’s service. The event took place Police Department auditorium today (15).
As the Minister of Defense and the person in charge of Police Department, the President has instructed all the institutes related to Defense Service and Police to carry-out their jobs fairly in attempt to make this a peaceful election.
The President was warmly welcomed as he arrived in Police Department auditorium in the morning.
The President then joined the Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickramaratne and few other senior officers in a meeting.
The service rendered by the President for the welfare of Police including the promotions to number of policemen was appreciated during the event.
In addition, there was a special meeting with the Tri-forces last evening (14) during which the President’s efforts were appreciated.
The Secretary to the Defense Ministry, few staff officials and Commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force were present at this meeting.
Meanwhile, all the Vice Chancellors also gathered at the President’s Office yesterday to felicitate the outgoing President of Sri Lanka.
They had appreciated the President’s efforts towards the welfare of University students and to uplift the quality of education was appreciated during this meeting. The example set by the President during the Election was also commended by the experts, the President’s Media Division said further.
