The decision of proroguing the Parliament is currently under consideration, according to political sources.
Although several rounds of discussions were reportedly held in this regard, a final decision is yet to be made.
The President is vested with the powers to prorogue the Parliament under 70 (1) of the Constitution and will accordingly issue an extraordinary Gazette notification announcing the prorogation. It is also the Head of the State who decides on the date and time of recommencing the parliamentary sessions.
It is customary for the President to deliver a Throne speech at the ceremonial opening of the Parliament.
However, the President can also use his discretion in not delivering the Throne speech, a senior parliamentary officer told Ada Derana.
The Parliament will reconvene on December 3rd as decided before the Presidential Election.
