New members appointed to COPE, COPA

Members of the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) and the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) have been appointed, says the Department of Communication of the Parliament.

The Committee of Selection, on the meeting held in the 24th of January 2020, appointed 16 members to the COPA in accordance with the provisions of Standing Order 119 (1) of the Parliament. Their names were announced today (05) in Parliament.

Accordingly, Ministers Pavithradevi Wanniarachchi, Douglas Devananda, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Duminda Dissanayake, Rohitha Abeygunawardana, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Shehan Semasinghe, Chandima Weerakkody and MPs Udaya Gammanpila, Palitha Range Bandara, Niroshan Perera, Seyed Ali Zahir Moulana, Buddhika Pathirana, S. Shritharan, Nalinda Jayathissa and Wijepala Hettiarachchi have been appointed to the COPA.

The Committee of Selection, which met on the 24th of January, 2020 in accordance with the provisions of Standing Order 120 (1) of the Parliament has also appointed members for COPE. The inclusion of 16 MPs to the committee was held to be significant, the statement issued by the Parliament stated.

Ministers Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Susil Premajayantha, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Jayantha Samaraweera and Mohan Priyadarshana De Silva and MPs Rauff Hakeem, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Harsha De Silva, Ajith P. Perera, Sriyani Wijewickrama, Ranjan Ramanayake, Ashok Abeysinghe, Sunil Handunnetti, Mavai S. Senathirajah and D. V. Chanaka were appointed to the COPE.

The appointment of the Chairmen for these two Committees is yet to be decided at the meeting of the Standing Committees, the statement read further.
