Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of the police sergeant who was found dead with injuries in Vavunathivu.
A 50-year-old police sergeant attached to the Valachchenai police was found dead with injury marks on his body, at the Mullamanai area in Vavunathivu this morning (06).
Interrogations have revealed that the police officer had died in an argument that led to a clash between him and the suspects.
Reportedly, the deceased police sergeant had been returning from a visit to his property in the area when he encountered the two suspects hiding in the area. The suspects had told the sergeant that they had arrived at the location to consume alcohol. However, the officer’s continuous questioning of the suspects had led to a conflict turned assault which resulted in the death of the officer.

The deceased father of three from Batticaloa had been serving attached to the Valachchenai Police Station and was due to retire from police service next month.
Reportedly, the sergeant had talked on the phone with his wife at around 11 pm last night (05) before leaving to check on his property where he was murdered.
