Lasantha Alagiyawanna re-appointed COPA chairman

State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna has been unanimously re-appointed as the Chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA).
MP Lasantha Alagiyawanna’s name was proposed by MP Udaya Prabhath Gammanpila and was seconded by MP Chandima Weerakkody. He was the COPA chairman prior to the prorogation of Parliament on the 02nd of December 2019.
Ministers Pavithradevi Wanniarachchi, Duminda Dissanayake and MPs Chandima Weerakkody, Udaya Prabhath Gammanpila, Seyed Ali Zahir Moulana, (Dr.) Nalinda Jayathissa and Wijepala Hettiarachchi were present at the committee meeting held today at parliament, a release said.
The Committee of Selection, during the meeting held on the 24th of January 2020, appointed 16 members to the COPA in accordance with the provisions of Standing Order 119 (1) of the Parliament.
Their names were announced in Parliament on February 05, 2020.
Accordingly, Ministers Pavithradevi Wanniarachchi, Douglas Devananda, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Duminda Dissanayake, Rohitha Abeygunawardana, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Shehan Semasinghe, Chandima Weerakkody and MPs Udaya Gammanpila, Palitha Range Bandara, Niroshan Perera, Seyed Ali Zahir Moulana, Buddhika Pathirana, S. Shritharan, Nalinda Jayathissa and Wijepala Hettiarachchi had been appointed to the COPA.
Meanwhile the Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) will also be appointed today.
