Sunil Handunnetti re-appointed COPE chairman

JVP Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti has been re-appointed as the chairman of Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), says Ada Derana correspondent.

This appointment was made during the COPE meeting held at the Parliament today (07).

MP Handunnetti’s name was proposed by MP Ajith P. Perera and was seconded by MP Ashok Abeysinghe.

He was the COPE chairman prior to the prorogation of Parliament on the 02nd of December 2019.

Abeysinghe, Dr. Harsha de Silva were present at the committee meeting held today at parliament.
 

The Committee of Selection, which met on the 24th of January, in accordance with the provisions of Standing Order 120 (1) of the Parliament appointed 16 members for COPE.

Accordingly, Ministers Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Susil Premajayantha, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Jayantha Samaraweera and Mohan Priyadarshana De Silva and MPs Rauff Hakeem, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Harsha De Silva, Ajith P. Perera, Sriyani Wijewickrama, Ranjan Ramanayake, Ashok Abeysinghe, Sunil Handunnetti, Mavai S. Senathirajah and D. V. Chanaka were appointed as new members of the COPE.

In the meantime, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna was unanimously re-appointed as the Chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA).
