UNP Parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera says that the United National Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution 30/1 has done no harm to the country thus far.
He made this remark adddressing a media briefing held at the Opposition Leader’s office today (22).
The government says the withdrawal from co-sponsorship of the UNHRC resolution 30/1 is because it has caused damages to the country, but at the same time they have said they will withdraw from only two UNHRC resolutions, the parliamentarian commented, while questioning the government’s move to withdraw from only two proposals when it can withdraw from the entire consensus resolution.
The government is trying to mislead people as elections are drawing nearer, the parliamentarian claimed.
The government of Sri Lanka recently decided to withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolutions 30/1 and 40/1 co-sponsored by the former government in 2015 and 2019 respectively.
This was later approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
