Overseas travel ban on Patali lifted temporarily

The overseas travel ban imposed on former MP Patali Champika Ranawaka has been lifted temporarily, says Ada Derana reporter.

Accordingly, the Colombo Magistrate’s Court has granted him permission to travel abroad from April 26 to 12 May.

When the case pertaining to a road accident at Rajagiriya back in 2016, in which Ranawaka was named as a suspect, was heard today (04), the defence attorney – President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratne – told the court that his client is scheduled to travel to Australia during the aforesaid time period and requested to lift the travel ban temporarily.

In response, ASP Neville de Silva of Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) stated that Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris from the Attorney General’s Office has instructed him not to raise objections to granting permission to this request under the conditions stipulated by the court.

Taking into consideration these submissions, Additional Magistrate Kanchana Neranjala de Silva imposed an additional personal bail on Ranawaka and ordered the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration to temporarily lift the travel ban.

The case will be taken up again on the 13th of May.
