Kumara Welgama launched new political party

A new political party led by former minister Kumara Welgama was launched today under the name of “Nawa Lanka Nidahas Pakshaya” (New Lanka Freedom Party).

The ceremony launching the new party was held today at Pita Kotte under the patronage of the leader of the party, Kumara Welgama.

The event was organized under the theme ‘New Lanka Freedom Party for the pure Bandaranaike policy’ while the policy statement of the party was presented to the party leader by its Secretary Thilak Warakagoda.

Nawa Sinhala Urumaya leader Sarath Manamendra, speaking at the event, said that they will form an alliance with Welgama’s new party and contest the upcoming election.

He claimed they will obtain a large number of seats in Parliament and that they will appoint Welgama to the leadership of the true Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).
