March 12, 2020   12:02 pm

Legal action will be taken against individuals who spread false information regarding the novel coronavirus, stated the Police Headquarters.

False rumors that people from many areas of the country have been infected with the coronavirus are currently circulated on social media.

However, there is only one individual who has been confirmed to have contracted the virus and he is receiving medical treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) in Angoda, pointed out the Police.

It has also been confirmed that none of his family members have contracted the virus either and they are all in quarantine at their home under the supervision of the Health Ministry.

Accordingly, the police request the general public not to be misled by such false rumors and misinformation on social media.
