Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says that Sri Lanka is able to accommodate quarantine of 1000 persons in case of a coronavirus-related emergency.

He mentioned this speaking at a meeting held at the Temple Trees yesterday (11) to discuss the spread of COVID-19, its effect on Sri Lankan economy and measures to be taken in a case of emergency.

Ministers, Ministry Secretaries, trade union agents and heads of business had joined in the discussion held with the Prime Minister.

Approximately, Sri Lanka imports USD 1 billion worth textiles from China for the apparel industry, stated Prime Minister’s Media Unit. However, it was revealed at the discussion that Sri Lanka has lost nearly USD 500 million in manufacturing capacity in the last month.

Therefore, the government was looking at providing relief to Small and Mid-size Enterprises (SME).

Further, steps have been taken to increase the production of hygiene products, including face masks in the event of an emergency added Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
