Sri Lankans barred from traveling overseas for employment - SLBFE

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has decided not to permit any Sri Lankans to travel overseas for employment until the Coronavirus risk eases.
It said the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure against the virus which has currently spread across the globe.
Sri Lankans are restricted for leaving for Foreign Employment until Covid – 19 is brought under control considerably and this decision is valid until further notice, the SLBFE said.
The following decisions were taken at a discussion held today (13) on the instructions of Minister of Skill Development, Employment and Labour Relations with the participation of Chairman and Senior Management of the SLBFE and Associations of Licensed Foreign Employment Agencies:
1. In line with the declaration of WHO the Corona virus outbreak a global pandemic, no Sri Lankans will be granted approval by the SLBFE for leaving for Foreign Employment until outbreak of Corona virus, Covid – 19 in the world is brought considerably under control.
This decision has been taken as a supportive measure for the quarantine process being implemented at national level since, restriction of local and overseas movements of migrant population is a must in this endeavor.
2. It is further emphasized that this decision has been taken as a means of extending co-operation towards certain countries which have already imposed entry restrictions due to outbreak of Corona virus.
