Following the Cabinet meeting a few politicians met at a five star hotel for an event and invariably started discussing some of the decisions taken by the Cabinet. One such decision came under particular scrutiny.

“The person behind the bid to attack the Director General of Health is none other than Maithripala. The higher ups know this. That is why they spitefully made Maithripala himself grant the DG his contract extension”, one Minister stated.

“You’re right. Maithripala has been drawing his own water and bathing in it”, another said.

“Who says so? The higher ups have been drawing the water from him and he has very faithfully taken the water from the basin and bathed himself”, they joked on.

“There’s one thing the higher ups didn’t think about and that is the fact that the President’s Investigative Commission is the body that unearthed these corruption charges. The Commission has been reduced to the state of redundancy”.

The banter continued throughout the event on a host of other subject as well.
