Urvil Patel entered his name in the history books on Sunday (May 10) by equalling the record of scoring the fastest 50 in the Indian Premier League.
The 27-year-old right-handed batter from Gujarat walked out to bat at No. 3 for Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2026 match against Lucknow Super Giants at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, and with the help of 1 four and 7 sixes, reached the 50-run mark in 13 balls.
He equalled Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record, who also needed 13 balls to reach the 50-run mark for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023 match vs Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.
Patel is the fastest batter to score fifty in an IPL match for Chennai Super Kings. The previous record for scoring the fastest 50 for CSK in the IPL was held by Suresh Raina.
In the 2014 IPL match played against Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 30, 2014, Raina reached the 50-run mark in 16 balls.
