South Africa won the toss and elected to field first against Sri Lanka in the first ODI played in Johannesburg.

After a thrilling Test series, South Africa and Sri Lanka take on each other in the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series. Surprisingly, it has been Sri Lanka all the way since they landed on the South African soil. The Sri Lankans became the first team from Asia to win a Test series in South Africa and that too by whitewashing the hosts in a two-match series. And now Sri Lanka will be looking to keep up their good work in the ODIs.

With ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, just three months away, this five-match series is crucial for both South Africa and Sri Lanka. While Sri Lanka faces Scotland in May for two ODIs, this will be South Africa’s last assignment before the world cup. So, both teams will be looking to fine-tune their squad for the World Cup.

South Africa is relatively weaker in ODIs than Tests. Sri Lanka too have struggled in ODIs of late. It will be interesting to see how both the sides compete in the 50-overs format. Given the winning momentum, which is Wirth Sri Lanka, they appear to starts as favourites.
