The first ever ‘Para Rowing Double Scull’ boat brought to Sri Lanka being tested at the Diyawanna Rowing Centre by a disable war hero.
It was tested by a former Special Forces soldier, who was left totally incapacitated after being injured in the battlefront during the war in 2008 at the age of 18, and is now able to move his upper body and is determined to row for Sri Lanka at Para Olympics.
The Para Rowing Double Scull boat was brought down to the country by the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka (ARASL) for the first time in Sri Lanka’s history, in a bid to promote the water-sport among the disabled persons.
The initiative was made by ARASL President Rohan Fernando and Vice President Sithira Wickramasekara, who have immensely contributed to the development and promotion of rowing in Sri Lanka.
