Nimali Liyanarachchi qualifies for Tokyo Olympics

Sri Lankan athlete Nimali Liyanarachchi has qualified for the 800m Women’s event at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The National Olympic Committee said Nimali Liyanarachchi qualified by Universality Place for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and she will represent Sri Lanka for Athletes in the 800m event.

Liyanarachchi had secured the Bronze Medal in the Women’s 800 metres event at the 60th Inter-State Athletics Championship, recently held in Patiala, India 

She had also won gold medal in women’s 800 meters finals at the 12th South Asian Games in India in 2016.  

Last week, Yupun Abeykoon the National Record holder in 100m [10.15 Sec] and South Asia’s fastest man also qualified for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games for 100m.
