Expertise, not age will win World Cup, says Chaminda Vass

Sri Lankan fast bowler Chaminda Vass has said that he would retire from international cricket after the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

 

 

His desire is to play for the national team at the upcoming World Cup and win the trophy for Sri Lanka, Chaminda Vass has told BBC. He has added that though he bowled well he had been dropped by the authorities who had claimed that the bowling speed was not up to mark.

 

 

Vass has told BBC’s Thamil Osai that he had faith in the selectors headed by former cricketer Aravinda de Silva and that they would do justice to Sri Lankacricket. He has added that Sri Lanka Cricket should utilize experienced players irrespective of age to go for a win at the World Cup.

 

 

After retirement he plans to coach fast bowlers in Sri Lanka, Vass has said. He has reiterated that he does not have any political aspirations but believed that Sanath Jayasuriya will prove himself successful in politics as he is in the game of cricket.
