Sports Minister suspends Sri Lanka Rugby

Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa has suspended the registration of the Sports Association for Sri Lanka Rugby Association – the official governing body of rugby in Sri Lanka.

This was announced in a special gazette notification issued on Friday (April 01), in accordance with the powers vested in the Sports Minister under Section 32 (b) and 33 of Sports Act. No. 25 of 1973, and its amendments.
 
Accordingly, the Director-General of the Department of Sports Development, Mr. Amal Edirisuriya has been appointed as the competent authority, effective from April 01.

The competent authority will oversee the administrative and other required proceedings and call for and hold the relevant elections as well as perform the activities of the said national sports association until then as the temporary procedure, the communiqué read further.
