Isipathana, Trinity clash in President’s Trophy final

Isipathana College Colombo will take on Trinity College Kandy in the final of the President’s Trophy Inter-Schools Knock-Out Rugby Tournament at the Royal Complex in Colombo this evening.

The blockbuster encounter will get underway at 4:15 p.m.

Isipathana, the most successful team in the history of the tournament secured a place in the final by beating Royal College Colombo 24-17 in the last week’s semi-final while they defeated Wesley College Colombo by 24-10 in the quarterfinals.

Isipathana who are featuring in the final for a record 29th time will be looking to play fast-expansive rugby against the Trinity side who have made an impressive start to this year’s rugby season.

Trinitians defeated Zahira College Colombo 29-12 in the semi-final while they downed S. Thomas’ College 24-15 in the quarter-finals of the 2025 President’s Trophy Tournament.

Trinity led by Usman Safaraz is seeking to clinch the President’s trophy for the first time since 2011 while Thinethra Dodangoda led Isipathana College is gearing to win the tournament for a record-extending 15th occasion.

Heavy rains are expected to play a key role in the outcome of today’s encounter which will be a tussle between the backline of Isipathana and the heavy Trinity forwards.
