Sri Lanka totaled 182-4 against Zimbabwe after being put in to bat in the opening match of cricket’s ICC World Twenty20 competition in Sri Lanka.

Kumar Sangakkara made 44, Jeevan Mendis was 43 not out and Tillakaratne Dilshan got 39 in the Group C match in Hambantota.

Thisara Perera came in two balls from the end, at 176-4, and clubbed a six off the first delivery he faced.

Tomorrow Australia plays Ireland in Group B, and Afghanistan meets India in Group A, both games in Colombo. Defending champion England’s first game in Group A is against Afghanistan in Colombo on Sept. 21.

The top two in each of the four groups go through to a Super Eight stage, from which the top two teams in each pool advance to the semifinals. The final is in Colombo on Oct. 7.
