
Nilanthi Jayasekera, the wife of former Sri Lanka fast bowling coach and Test cricketer Champaka Ramanayake, has passed away yesterday.
According to media reports Jayasekara, 46, a mother of three sons, died of cancer.
A former mathematics teacher at Yasodhara Balika Vidyalaya, she rendered a yeoman service for Sri Lanka Badminton by guiding current top ranked women badminton player - Thilini Hendahewa and many more.
She was the mother of Sri Lanka Under-19 player and Royal-Thomian big match hero Hashen Ramanayake and lanky fast bowler Hitesh Ramanayake, who also played a few matches for Royal’s First XI.
Sri Lankan cricketers wore black arm bands during the second day’s play of the First Test against England at Lord’s yesterday as a mark of respect to the wife of their former fast bowling coach.
Jayasekara’s remains are lying at 80/1, Rubber Estate Road, Gangodawila, Nugegoda. Her funeral will take place at the General Cemetery, Borella on June 15 (Sunday) at 4.30pm.
