Big celebrations were seen from Dinesh Chandimal as he gets to his sixth Test hundred, his first outside Asia.

A triumverate of fifties from Angelo Mathews, and Kaushal Silva delayed Englands series victory charge and took play into the fourth day of the second Test at the Riverside.

Despite losing their last two 1st innings wickets and following on early on the third day they battled throughout to retain some face following some one-sided cricket.

Mathews and Silva put on the Sri Lankans first half-century partnership of the series and this was followed later in the day by another between Chandimal and Milinda Siriwardana.

Sri Lanka also put on their best opening partnership of the series as Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis bunkered down.
