iPhone 7 will finally get rid of outdated home button

We are less than a month away from the release of the new iPhone, likely to be called the iPhone 7, and the leaks won’t stop coming. Courtesy of Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman comes further confirmation that the new Apple device will use a dual-camera setup and have no headphone jack. But the most exciting news to me is this: Apple will apparently finally do away with the iPhone’s very outdated home button.

As I’ve been writing recently, Meizu’s everything-in-one home button that works as home button, back button and fingerprint sensor has really impressed me, and made going back to the iPhone 6s’ home button feel primitive. In fact, I think Meizu’s take even trumps Google’s standard three-button setup.

The iPhone 7′s new home button, according to Bloomberg, will be touch-capacitive. Meaning users will no longer have to press into it. In fact, Bloomberg is reporting that the button will allow for multiple levels of touch-sensitivity. Like the MacBook’s trackpad, the button will reportedly provide feedback to via a vibrating haptic sensation.

This is very cool, and opens up the door for the device to do more than just “go back to the phone’s home screen.”

As for that dual-lens shooter, Bloomberg reports that it’ll work like Huawei P9′s setup instead of the LG G5′s version. Whereas the latter used two cameras separately, Huawei’s latest flagship used both cameras at the same time, then stitch together the two shots digitally to create one high-quality photo.
