Blackpink’s ‘Deadline’ comeback breaks YouTube records

Group Blackpink will make a comeback on the 27th at 2 p.m. with their third mini album “Deadline.” Global music fans’ attention is focused on their first full-group album in 3 years and 5 months, which will conclude their large-scale world tour that began last year.

This album captures “Blackpink’s irreversible best moments” and “Blackpink’s current brilliance at those best moments.” YG, the agency, explained that the five tracks of diverse styles prove Blackpink’s limitless musical evolution.

◇ Blackpink’s Message of Courage and Solidarity in “GO”

The title track “GO” harmonizes a powerful sound composition with an addictive melody. It also delivers a message of courage and solidarity through the unhesitant group chant “Blackpink’ll make ya.”

The “GO” music video teaser showed members embarking on a voyage toward the universe, overcoming a stormy sea and a lava-filled land. Its overwhelming scale and sensational visuals stood out.

Billboard stated, “Blackpink is preparing for a big leap for BLINK (fanbase name) after taking small first steps,” highlighting impressive scenes from the teaser and adding, “It will be an album with a sensational and irresistible concept.”

◇ Pink Waves Pour into the Museum

Blackpink’s activities ahead of their comeback expanded into a cultural event. On the previous day, a pre-release listening event for the new album was held amid pink waves, Blackpink’s signature color, at the “History Hall” on the first floor of the National Museum of Korea. This marked the first time the museum collaborated with an external brand to open its space.

A strange yet beautiful scene was created as massive waves of the new song “GO” poured over the 8-meter-high digital Gwanggaeto Stele, which carries 1,600 years of history. The members personally took on multilingual (Korean, English, Thai) audio docent roles, explaining national treasures such as the Pensive Bodhisattva and White Porcelain Moon Jar, guiding the global fandom into the essence of Korean traditional heritage.

◇ First Artist in the World to Surpass 100 Million YouTube Subscribers

Blackpink has set numerous records. Through activities for their second full album “Born Pink,” they topped both the U.S. Billboard 200 and the UK Official Albums Chart. They achieved double million seller status (2.14 million copies as of September 2022) and mobilized 1.8 million audiences for a single tour, setting firsts for a K-pop girl group.

Ahead of their full-group return, they wrote another record. Since entering full album promotion on the 15th, their YouTube channel gained an average of 10,000 new subscribers daily, becoming the first artist in the world to surpass 100 million YouTube subscribers.

A source from YG said, “Despite the hectic journey of a large-scale world tour, they spent a long time perfecting the album’s quality. We are confident this result condenses the members’ musical capabilities and synergy as a team. We ask for much support as they leave meaningful footprints in the global music market.”
