The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka says that all radio channels in the island will be operated on new FM radio frequencies starting from tomorrow (November 01), assuring clearer countrywide reception.
Listeners can tune in to Sri Lanka’s favorite Sinhala radio station, FM Derana via the new frequencies 92.4 and 92.2 from midnight today.
The TRCSL re-allocated radio frequencies of all 45 FM broadcasting channels, upon instructions of President Rajapaksa and executed under the direction of Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, in an effort to minimise the technical problems hindering the listeners from obtaining clear sound reception.
The TRCSL prepared a new transparent plan to re-allocate the frequencies among the FM channels taking into account the frequencies used by them.
This was done on the basis of a national policy to reform the system, with the objective of minimising the practical problems confronting both radio broadcasters and listeners.
The frequency separation of 100 KHz between two channels has been increased to 300 KHz.
This new arrangement will enable the radio listeners to get a clearer reception in any part of the country from any single frequency, the TRCSL says.
