The Upper Kotmale hydro power project, which adds 150MW of power to the National Grid, was ceremonially declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa today (July 14). The power plant consists of two generators with 75 MW of capacity and was funded by the government of Japan. The ceremony was also attended by Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, Private Transport Minister C.B. Ratnayake and Ambassador of Japan Nobuhito Hobo.
