Catering to the request of a special group of children who wanted to participate in a beach clean-up for this Children’s Day, a special event under the name “Athuru Mithuru Sith Pirisidu” was organised by Gasma, Pulse and Nadi of Derana Macroentertainment.
Children from schools including “Senehasa, Chitra Lane, Teddy’s Castle and Ash-Shiffa” took part in the event, with the support of the Centre for Beach Clean-up.
The main objective of this event was to raise awareness that if such community work can be conducted by a group of children, to take care of nature and the environment, we as adults are more than capable of doing it as well.
During the beach clean-up, a few games associated with the beach were organized for the children and all the children who participated were given prizes. SPAR Supermarket, Sri Lanka Insurance, CBL Samaposha, Kiddoz.lk and Cinnamon Grand Colombo were the main sponsors for this event.
For this event, more than 70 school children and about 25 teachers from their schools participated. Sri Lanka Police, Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air force, Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management Department, Department of Wildlife Conservation, Office of the Chief of Defence Staff and Civil Aviation Authority - Sri Lanka provided their fullest support for this cause.
