The Department of Meteorology announced that on the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during August 28 to September 06 this year.

The nearest places of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead tomorrow (28) are Delft Island, Pooneryn, Thadduvankoddi and Chundikkulam around 12.11 noon, it said.

Meanwhile, several spells of light showers are expected in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts, according to the Met. Department.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva Province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night. Mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere.

Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Hambantota and Trincomalee Districts, it added.

Thus, the general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
