Indian arrested at BIA for smuggling medicine worth Rs. 2.5 million

An Indian national has been arrested for illegally smuggling a stock of medicinal drugs including cancer medication into Sri Lanka.

The arrest was made by Sri Lanka Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) following the suspect’s arrival from Bangalore, India.

He is reported to have smuggled drugs worth approximately Rs. 2.5 million into Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, it has been revealed that the suspect has been involved in smuggling medicines in his luggage and selling them to private pharmacies and hospitals across the country.

The smuggled drugs reportedly include vials of medications for prostate cancer patients and drugs used to improve women’s fertility.
