Advisory issued for severe lightning; Heavy showers expected

The Department of Meteorology says showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island during the afternoon or night.

Heavy showers of about 100 mm can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts, it said.

Meanwhile, the Met. Department has also issued an advisory for severe lightning for several provinces.

Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, Uva and North-western provinces and in Anuradhapura district.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
