Passenger arrested with smuggled cigarettes at BIA

A person who was in possession of a large stock of cigarettes illegally smuggled into the country has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.

Officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) unit at the BIA have arrested the suspected passenger who had arrived in Sri Lanka from Dubai.

The arrested suspect has been identified as a 25-year-old resident of Kottawa, according to police.

A total of 59,980 sticks of foreign cigarettes, illegally smuggled into the country, were seized from him while the Police Narcotics Bureau is conducting further investigation into the incident.
