The Matara District Disaster Management Coordination Unit has confirmed that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure students sitting for the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination tomorrow (25) can safely reach their respective examination centers, even in the event of an emergency situation.
Assistant Director of the unit, Lieutenant Colonel Kelum Kudagamage, stated that in the event the flood situation persists, the Sri Lanka Navy, alongside the Army, will be ready to deploy boats, unibuffer vehicles, and tractors.
Additionally, boats and tractors available at the Divisional Secretariats and Pradeshiya Sabhas will be utilized to transport students to their exam locations if required.
In case of any travel disruptions due to adverse weather conditions, students are advised to call the emergency hotline which is operational round the clock at 0412 234 134 for assistance.
Despite recent heavy rains, it has been reported that no significant rainfall occurred in the Matara District between last night (23) and 4.00 p.m. today (24).
The Disaster Management Unit has further noted that the minor flooding that affected several areas of Matara is gradually receding as the weather improves.
