Police have seized a stock of over 400 kilograms of Kerala cannabis that was being transported in a lorry at Paranthan.

The operation was carried out following a tip-off from Sri Lanka Army Intelligence, said police.

Under the instructions of the Acting IGP, the Sri Lanka Police conducted an island-wide crime and drug prevention operation.

As part of this initiative, officers from the Kilinochchi Police Station conducted a raid last night (23) in the area between Paranthan and Elephant Pass, within the Kilinochchi Police Division, resulting in the arrest of two suspects.

The arrested individuals, aged 34 and 40, are residents of the Kilinochchi area.

The stockpile of Kerala cannabis was discovered packed in, a total of 182 parcels and carefully concealed in a specially designed compartment within the body of the lorry.

Current investigations have revealed that the lorry had originated from the Vaddukoddai area in Jaffna.

Kilinochchi police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
