Another three individuals have been suspended in connection to the death of the 23-year-old elephant at the Pinnawela orphanage, Director of the Zoological Department Baashwara Gunaratne stated.
He said that the suspended were a female official and two mahouts and that the decision had bee taken in relation to the investigation that’s being carried out on the death of the male pachyderm.
Thereby the chief officer in charge of the Wagolla and Pinnawela Zoo and Elephant Orphanage, who was transferred immediately following the incident, has now been suspended according to the reports received from the investigation.
If they are found not guilty at the conclusion of the investigations then the penalty would be eased. However if they are found guilty then the sentences would continue to be in affect, Mr. Gunaratne pointed out.
