Insufficient funds to help street children - NCPA

The National Child Protection Authority says that they have had to face a number of difficulties in providing protection to the street children under the authority’s care. According to Chairperson Anoma Dissanayake the NCPA doesn’t have sufficient funding to provide the children with required amenities.
The situation had worsened when the Child Protection Authority had taken in 21 street children recently, she stated.
There is food and clothes for these 21 children sufficient only for three days. The NCPA can manage to make arrangements for a few more days on the authority’s expense but thereafter the situation would be extremely regretful, Anoma Dissanayake revealed.
Therefore if anyone wishes to provide these children with food or clothing they are kindly requested to contact the hotline 1929 or handover the donations directly to the National Child Protection Authority, she added.
