Three JVP candidates assaulted in one night

The JVP says that three of its Local Government election candidates had been attacked yesterday (February 18). The party revealed that the leader of the Embilipitiya Urban Council team of candidates, former councilor P.S.K. Weladagoda had been assaulted around midnight yesterday.


A complaint in regard to the incident has been lodged at the Embilipitiya police station, a release by the JVP states.


Meanwhile two contestants for the Pasbage Korale Pradeshiya Sabha in the Kandy District had been attacked yesterday also at midnight.


The two JVP candidates, Kapila Abeyratne and Sunil Bandara, had been traveling on a motorbike when they were assaulted near the Dekinda Bridge by a group in a van, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna claims.

 
The candidates had been severely battered and the group had also stolen Rs.7,500 from them. The injured JVP member Kapila Abeyratne is presently receiving medical treatment at the Nawalapitiya Hospital, the statement further reads.
