Colombo: Sri Lankan Army said on Friday they are handing over Subhash Hotel, the landmark hotel in Jaffna to its owners as part of the military’s initiative to return private properties they occupied 15 years ago.

Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Jaffna military commander, said the Subhash Hotel was handed back to its owners.

“It can now be used to cater to tourists who are now coming to north. We want to hand back all private properties to the owners. We have already released over 800 such properties,” Hathurusinghe said.

Sri Lanka Army cleared Jaffna from the LTTE in 1995. They occupied private properties in security sensitive areas due to security concerns, PTI reported.
