16 arrested for illegal gem mining in Nivithigala

Sixteen individuals were arrested in total in four raids conducted by officers of the police special task force camp in Horana for illegal gem mining carried out along the Dalawe Ganga in the Nivithigala area.
Various gem mining equipment and several vehicles in possession of the arrested suspects was also taken into police custody.
The suspects were handed over to the Nivithigala Police for further interrogation, the STF stated.
