1 killed, 52 injured as bus plunges off cliff

One person was killed and another 52 were injured after a SLTB bus fell off a cliff in the Welikanda area along the Gampola –Nawakurunduwatta main road. The accident had occurred last night while the bus, belonging to the Nawalapitiya CTB bus Depot, had been traveling from Gampola to Watakedeniya.

While the passengers 21 males, including the bus driver, and 32 females who were injured in the incident were admitted to Kurunduwatta, Gampola and Kandy hospitals, one of the females had succumbed o injuries.

The deceased is said to be a 53-year-old resident of Kurunduwatta.

Nawakurunduwatta Police are conducting an investigation to establish the cause of the fatal accident.
