The United National Party (UNP) today asked the government to issue a ‘comprehensive report’ on the murder of former Parliamentarian Baratha Lakshman Premachandra, similar to the government’s call for a probe into the death of Muammar Gaddafi.

The Ministry of External Affairs had issued a statement yesterday (Oct. 24) saying “the government of Sri Lanka is of the opinion that the circumstances surrounding the death of the former Libyan leader require an explanation”.

It is a good thing, UNP media spokesman Gayantha Karunathilaka said today at a press briefing referring to the government’s call for probe on Gaddafi’s death, after he was captured by Libyan fighters.

“Not only that, the government should also release a comprehensive report on the killing of Baratha Lakshman Premachandra which is of concern to everyone, regardless of party differences.” he stated.

The Parliamentarian also revealed that the UNP Working Committee is scheduled to meet on October 27 to discuss important issues and decisions pertaining to the future of the party.

Speaking on the suspension of MP Buddhika Pathirana and Western Provincial Councilor Shiral Lakthilaka from the party, he pointed out that taking disciplinary action against them will be decided following Working Committee inquiries.
