The number of dengue related deaths within past three months this year has risen to 43, according to the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry. It said that approximately 9,657 persons have contracted the disease within this period.

Around 50% of the cases have been reported from the Western Province. So far the highest number of patients were reported in the month of January, the Epidemiology Unit said.

The Ministry of Health requests the public to continuously clear out possible mosquito breeding grounds in the environment as the monsoon season could see an increase in dengue mosquitoes.
