Migettuwatte Sumiththa Thero stripped of titles following arrest

The executive committee of the Asgiriya Chapter has decided to temporarily suspend Migettuwatte Sumiththa Thero’s title of Chief Sangha Nayaka of Galle following his arrest by the CID and his subsequent remand over criminal allegations.
Speaking on behalf of the Asgiriya Chapter, Anamaduwe Dhammatissa stated that until the investigations regarding Sumiththa Thero are complete and a verdicr is given by court, his title will be suspended. He added that the decision was taken upon careful consideration and the information provided by the CID.
Migettuwatte Sumiththa Thero was arrested in connection with aiding several criminals wanted for crimes in Bentota and Aluthgama while he is also alleged to have commissioned some of the crimes.
Police suspect the Thero of aiding a host of crimes in the area including the Rs. 2.3 million gold robbery in Bentota and the Rs.40 million jewellery heist in Aluthgama.
