Wijepala Mendis passes away

Wijepala Mendis, the former UNP stalwart and Minister who later crossed over passed away a short while ago.

He died while receiving treatment at a private hospital today (September 1) at the age of 84 years.

In 1959 he became the youngest person to be appointed as Mayor when he was made the Mayor of Negombo while in 1960 he became a parliamentarian.

He held a Ministerial post under the UNP and later joined the SLFP.
