October 28, 2012   11:32 am

Fishing and naval communities are warned of rough, windy and rainy seas off the Jaffna to Batticaloa coasts due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal.

The low pressure area in the Central Bay of Bengal has intensified in to a depression and is located about 600km to the East of Jaffna in the morning today (28), the Department of Meteorology said.

Fishermen are requested to be vigilant about the strong winds, showery weather and rough seas in the eastern, northeastern and northern deep sea areas.

There will be showers or thundershowers at times in the Eastern, Northern and North central provinces. Thundershowers will develop at several places elsewhere during the afternoon or evening, the Met. Department said.

There may be temporary localized fairly strong winds during thundershowers while general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages.
