As per a report, the port container cargo terminal fire was caused by undeclared inflammable chemical cargo, Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena stated.

Addressing a press conference today, the Project Minister of Ports and Highways stated that the company which had stored the cargo had not declared it as inflammable chemicals and that action would be taken against them.

A fire had broken out in the inbound cargo warehouse CFS 1 at JCT terminal inside the Port of Colombo on May 24 , causing over  Rs.50 million in damages.

The Colombo Crimes Division conducted investigations while statements had been recorded from 358 persons regarding the fire. CCTV footage of the fire has also been taken in for investigation.

The Ports Authority also conducted an internal inquiry regarding the fire which broke out at the Colombo Port.
